When everything feels like too much, you don’t have to deal with all of it. Pause, pick the one smallest thing in front of you, and let the rest wait for now.
What overwhelm can feel like
- Too many things competing for your attention
- Freezing, or not knowing where to start
- Feeling tense, tired or close to tears
- Wanting to escape or switch off
Overwhelm usually means your mind is carrying more than it can hold at once. It is not a personal failing, and it can ease when the load gets smaller.
Three small steps to lighten the load
1 · Pause
Stop for one slow breath. Nothing needs deciding in the next minute.
2 · Name one
Of everything on your mind, choose the one thing that matters most today, or the easiest.
3 · Make it tiny
Shrink it to a five-minute step, then do only that. Rest if you need to afterwards.
